Job description

Job Title: Catholic Music Director and Accompanist

Location:Whiteman Air Force Base , MO 65305
Contract Type:Non-Personal Services Contract
Service Units:Up to 123 units annually (1 unit = up to 2 hours per service, rehearsal, or meeting)

Position Overview:

The Catholic Music Director and Accompanist will lead and support musical components of Catholic worship services at [Installation Name] Chapel. The individual will collaborate with the Catholic Chaplain to plan, rehearse, and perform music that aligns with Catholic liturgical traditions, fostering a reverent and inspiring worship experience for service members and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide musical leadership at Catholic worship services, including Sunday Mass and special religious events.
  • Collaborate weekly with the Catholic Chaplain (or designee) to plan worship music selections.
  • Conduct at least one weekly rehearsal with the music team (not to occur on the same day as worship service).
  • Distribute selected music to the Worship Team at least 24 hours prior to rehearsal.
  • Arrive no later than 30 minutes before services/events and 10 minutes before rehearsals.
  • Assist with setup and teardown of musical equipment for each service.
  • Maintain a written log of all work performed under the contract.
  • Operate and support worship-related sound and projection systems, including use of software such as Song Show or Song Select.
  • Uphold all chapel, Air Force, DoD, and legal regulations including FOIA, FOUO handling, and background checks.

Qualifications:Education and Experience:

  • Submission of a current resume and a 1–3-minute video demonstrating vocal performance.
  • Minimum of two (2) work-related references attesting to prior experience in music ministry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Catholic faith and musical liturgical traditions.
  • Experience in worship planning, song selection, and musical arrangement.
  • Proficiency in reading sheet music and leading congregational worship.
  • Ability to play and accompany with piano or guitar is preferred.

Vocal and Instrumental Proficiency:

Vocal Performance Scoring Criteria (30 Points Total):

  • Pitch Accuracy: 0–10 points
  • Tone Quality: 0–10 points
  • Articulation & Diction: 0–5 points
  • Expression & Stage Presence: 0–5 points

Minimum Required Score: 24/30

Bonus (Instrumental Performance - up to 5 additional points):

  • Chord Accuracy & Transitions: 0–2 points
  • Tempo & Rhythm Control: 0–2 points
  • Integration with Vocal Performance: 0–1 point

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to direct, produce, and arrange Catholic worship music.
  • Familiarity with sound system operation and worship projection software (Song Select, Song Show, etc.).
  • Ability to recruit and develop volunteer musicians and vocalists.
  • Demonstrated leadership in building cohesive and spiritually focused music teams.

Other Requirements:

  • Must pass all background checks per DoDI 1402.5 for individuals in child care services.
  • Must comply with all applicable military chapel regulations and instructions.
  • Must maintain physical and operational security of government property and keys.

Schedule & Compensation:

  • Services will be provided on aunit-based system, with amaximum of 123 units per year.
  • Each unit represents up to2 hours of service, covering worship services, rehearsals, and planning meetings.
  • Compensation will be providedper unit, in accordance with the Non-Personal Services Contract Agreement.
