Job summary

St. Matthew's Cathedral in Washington, DC is seeking a full-time Communications Director to plan and manage multiple communications channels, sharing the Good News through liturgies, events, and parish news.

This role requires coordinating with staff and ministry leaders, and producing bilingual English/Spanish content. The position includes updating the parish website, managing social media, newsletters, and printed materials, plus assisting with Archdiocesan initiatives and annual appeals.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Catholic faith and love for parish life.
• Experience in social media management.
• Experience in website content management (Drupal Gutenberg editor).
• Experience in digital newsletter creation / email marketing (Constant Contact).
• Experience in design and graphics (Canva Pro).
• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Excellent planning and time management; ability to collaborate in a small team.
• Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with staff and parish ministry leaders to obtain information and stay current on events, livestreams, and ministry news.
• Schedule parish print and digital communications.
• Provide text editing and graphics support for event promotion.
• Regularly update parish website for liturgies, news, and events.
• Interface with website hosting company for maintenance and enhancements.
• Promote and share liturgies, events, livestreams, and content on parish social media.
• Monitor and manage parish social media accounts; oversee Young Adult accounts.
• Write, send, and share weekly parish news & events digital letter (English & Spanish).
• Produce weekly event listings and liturgy schedules for Cathedral.
• Prepare Rector’s letters (English & Spanish) and annual fundraising letter.
• Coordinate printing of Advent and Lenten brochures (English & Spanish).
• Implement Archdiocesan initiatives across channels (iGiveCatholic, Annual Appeal).
• Monitor and respond to Cathedral email inquiries.
• Assist the Rector with wedding ceremony planning and documentation.
• Perform other related duties as needed.
