Job Summary

As the Director of Catering, you will execute all catering events and conferences at Manhattanville University. You will manage a team of waitstaff, captains, culinary professionals, and union hourly staff. Your responsibilities include managing catering client relations, holding regular meetings with the catering staff, and working closely with campus events and various departments. You will also support events at senior campus leadership residences and offsite locations as needed. Ensuring high-quality catering that meets current trends and sustainability goals is essential. Additionally, your responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the main point of contact for all catering bookings, communications, and execution with clients and leadership.
• Coordinate and oversee internal and external catering events at Manhattanville University across multiple buildings.
• Review and manage daily event orders to ensure timely and complete execution.
• Schedule and train catering staff in service techniques, menu presentation, policies, procedures, and safety.
• Ensure each event and setup meet campus and Chartwells standards.
• Oversee operations of catering functions, including labor and food cost controls, preparation, transportation, setup, operation, and cleanup.
• Proficiently use catering and event management software (e.g., Catertrax).
• Meet regularly with campus leadership and clients to review catering events.
• Conduct tastings, menu samplings, and host catering showcases.
• Handle bookings, menu selection, costing, pricing contracts, and resourcing temporary help and equipment.
• Stay informed of current catering, wine, and spirit trends.

Qualifications

• Must have previous experience overseeing high-end, casual, and daily catering operations.
• Must obtain ServSafe certification within the first 30 days of employment (training paid for by Compass Group).
• Experience with ordering rental labor, smallwares, and auxiliary services.
• At least five years of progressive catering management experience.
• Experience with high-volume, multi-event services.
• Strong knowledge of food and catering trends, quality, sanitation, cost controls, and presentation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, email, and internet.
• Experience in high-volume, complex foodservice operations is highly desirable.
