Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Takes patients' menu selections prior to each meal.

  • Offer alternatives within prescribed diets for allergies and preferences.
  • Assemble trays according to the menu on tray tickets.
  • Coordinate with nursing to ensure accuracy of diet prescriptions.
  • Complete catering rounds after tray delivery to check for other needs.
  • Retrieve trays from patients' rooms after rounds.
  • Maintain accurate patient information in assigned units.
  • Assist the dietitian with monitoring of special diet patients.
  • Report patient-related problems to appropriate personnel.

Compensation: $17.05hr starting (union contract)

Position Summary

Responsible for patient food service on assigned units, menu selections, tray assembly, tray delivery and pick up, special requests and needs, in- between meal food delivery. Exhibits a friendly, caring attitude to patients when introducing the catering program, taking menu selections, delivering trays, inquiring during catering rounds and retrieving trays.

Responsibilities
  • Takes patients' menu selections prior to each meal.
  • Comply with food and nutrition restrictions on special, modified diets to ensure optimal food preferences are met within guidelines of diet order limitations. (Throughout Shift)
  • Offers alternatives to the menu as allowed on the prescribed diet in accordance with food allergies and sensitivities, cultural, ethnic and religious preferences, when the patient inquires or needs additional selections. (Throughout Shift)
  • Assembles trays according to the patient’s menu on tray tickets in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Interacts with nursing to ensure patients’ diet prescriptions are accurate, and patients’ food needs are met.
  • Completes catering rounds after passing trays to inquire if the patient needs anything else.
  • Retrieves trays from patients’ rooms shortly after completing the round.
  • Maintains accurate and current information for each patient in assigned unit(s).
  • Assists the dietitian with monitoring of patients who are NPO, on liquid diets or have a calorie count ordered.
  • Communicates any patient-related problems/concerns to appropriate personnel in a timely manner following departmental procedures.
Work Experience

1 to 3 years of experience.
