Job description

Principal Function: The Catering and Banquet Manager is responsible for all catering and banquet event sales, promotion and execution. This role leads a team of sales coordinators and execution staff in the production of private events and ticketed events. Maintains organizational calendar of event space use and is responsible for annual revenue and expenses for this segment of business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages banquet events along with assigned banquet staff to ensure successful event execution.
  • Trains sales team to support banquet event growth and success.
  • Manages banquet space scheduling and calendar activities.
  • Maintains organizational calendar based on contracted and internal events.
  • Updates pricing and options for venues, menus and add-ons.
  • Maintains or produces sales collateral requesting website updates as needed.
  • Orchestrates business development, networking and venue improvements.
  • Directs or assists in event set-up and tear down when necessary.
  • Resolves client issues and provides excellent customer service experience.
  • Knowledgeable about event AV and able to provide support.
  • Manages invoicing and processing payments through accounting, ensuring accounts are complete.
  • Performs end of month and annual budget reviews and forecasting.
  • Conducts performance evaluations for team.
  • Recruits and hires team members as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises the Event Sales Coordinators, Banquet Supervisor and support staff. Employee carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; scheduling and approving time worked; appraising performance; rewarding and correcting employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in related field is required; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in a catering and/or banquet sales role is desired. Previous experience working in the museum and/or entertainment industry is desired.

  • A working knowledge of health and safety regulations is desired. ServeSafe certification is required, the opportunity to obtain certification will be offered once hired.
  • The willingness to resolve customer needs in an efficient and positive manner is required.
  • A working knowledge of event planning and execution is desired.
  • The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. Spanish is desired.

Conner Prairie is generally open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, this position will require work beyond these hours when open for special events.
