Overview

The Category Analyst will support the Category Management Team and Sales Organization through delivery of data analysis, planograms, and customer presentations. This position will research trends, interpret market data, assess market conditions, and maintain department software tools and databases.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Conduct market research using syndicated and custom tools such as trend analysis for geographic markets, distribution channels, accounts, brands, and suppliers, including customer point of sale data, to support retailer business strategies.
  2. Structure and interpret data (scan, census, point of sale) for targeted use by chain sales and category management. Evaluate economic and market conditions, estimate sales potential, and identify opportunities for retailers and brands.
  3. Develop and maintain databases and image libraries. Support the development of business recommendations for product assortments, placements, and layouts. Analyze pricing, promotional activities, and efficiency initiatives.
  4. Provide analytical reporting tools to evaluate supplier portfolios, including sales, pricing, distribution, and merchandising. Assist in developing short and long-term business plans for retail accounts and suppliers as directed by the Regional Category Manager.
  5. Support the development and deployment of plan-o-grams and store layouts. Demonstrate proficiency in software and make recommendations for department layouts and rules to ensure consistency and profitability across retail enterprises.
  6. Work with the team to maximize efficiency in pricing accuracy, returned cases, sales maximization, replenishment, and void closure.
  7. Train sales teams on interpreting syndicated data and how to leverage data in sales strategies.
  8. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree plus 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong background in market research with analytical skills in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting syndicated data.
  • Prior experience with syndicated data sources such as IRI/ACNielsen, Spectra, household panel data, or space planning tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced degree such as an MBA.
  • Category Management Certification is a plus.
  • Experience in liquor, food, or grocery wholesale/distribution is preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Sitting and typing for extended periods; using a computer and keyboard.
  • Occasional walking, bending, reaching, standing, and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
