Job summary

Great American Insurance Group’s Reinsurance internship offers hands-on experience in catastrophe modeling, data engineering and visualization. You’ll learn to use modeling software, SQL, Python, and dashboards in Tableau/Power BI while contributing to real-world projects.

Are you a data-driven problem solver looking to explore the world of catastrophe modeling? Our Reinsurance Division is offering an exciting internship opportunity for individuals eager to learn and contribute to real-world projects in a supportive team environment. This internship offers hands‑on experience with real‑world projects that support our catastrophe modeling, data engineering, and visualization efforts. Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on‑site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.

Business Unit: Reinsurance

What You’ll Work On

• Modeling & Geospatial Analysis – Learn to use modeling software to evaluate catastrophe risk. Run analyses and identify high-risk catastrophe regions.
• SQL & Data Engineering – Update and maintain databases, tables, queries and processes in SQL. Review, update and maintain data engineering code in Python. Consolidate and clean up redundant reference tables across multiple databases.
• Visualization & Reporting – Create Tableau/Power BI dashboards. Map wildfire, hurricane, convective storm, and earthquake events for visual insights.
• Process Optimization – Help streamline repeatable modeling processes. Learn and apply Python for automation and data prep tasks. Collaborate with teams to share tools and insights.

What We’re Looking For

• Currently pursuing a degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Risk Management, or a related field.
• Proficient with Excel and a willingness to learn SQL, Tableau, Power BI and Python.
• Looking for someone who is detail-oriented, curious, and an effective communicator to join our collaborative team.
