Job summary

The McHenry Public Library District seeks an on-site Cataloging Associate in the Technical Services department to create and modify item records, catalog and classify materials, and prepare labels for processing.

You will assist with copy cataloging, update bibliographic records, and support acquisitions and serials management, using the library's ILS and standards such as MARC, Dewey, and RDA.

Qualifications

• The LTA certificate or MLS/MLIS with cataloging emphasis is preferred but not required.
• Experience with integrated library systems is a plus.
• Familiarity with OCLC, MARC, Dewey and RDA standards is desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
• Proficiency with Windows, Office, Google Suite, and general IT adaptability.

Responsibilities

• Create and modify item records and catalog materials with correct call numbers and headings.
• Prepare labels and process library materials for circulation.
• Assist with copy cataloging and maintain bibliographic records.
• Support acquisitions, serials management, and maintenance of library materials.
• Update records in the ILS and participate in database cleanup and reclassification.
