Job summary

Pets Are Family Pet Sitting Services LLC in Alexandria, VA seeks a dedicated Cat Specialist Pet Sitter to care for cats and other small companions. You will meet clients, develop care plans, train junior sitters, and monitor animal welfare with reliable daily reporting.

Our ideal candidate has previous experiences such as: veterinary care for cats and is comfortable working with medically fragile cats or cats with behavioral challenges. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of feline behavior & body language. The ideal candidate can meet with new clients to develop their cats care plans and train novice pet sitters to care for cats. Fear Free Certification and experience using Time to Pet are pluses but not required as we provide this training too! Additional Information:

• Cat Specialist pet sitters are available between minimally between 7-9am and 4-8pm Wednesday through Sundays with a rotating schedule of weekend work twice a month. (You'll provide feeding, medication administration, companionship and playtime for cats, as well as plant watering, mail pickup, and basic home care while clients are traveling.)
• Visit times for cats are either once or twice daily (one AM visit and one PM visit) for typically 15 or 30-minute visits.
• Meet with new clients
• Train novice pet sitters proper cat care

Requirements for the cat specialist pet sitter position:

• You love working with cats and are passionate about their welfare!
• You are comfortable feeding, administering a variety of medications, and playing with cats according to their individual needs. You are able to monitor the behavior and health of the cats in your care and report any concerns to the supervisor.
• You can make a 6 month commitment to working for the company. Clients who travel regularly prefer to have a relationship the same sitter or combination of two sitters.
• You have consistent availability and are available to work 2 weekends a month.
• You are able to work short shifts at least 2 of the 3 major winter holidays: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve & Day, New Year's Eve & New Year's Day (Don't worry! You'll be able to have a holiday too, and you'll be paid more per visit during this time.)
• You have strong communication skills (both orally and in writing) and you have the ability to provide exceptional customer service to our pets' guardians by promptly addressing any questions or concerns.
• You can document daily activities and report any unusual behavior or incidents to both the company and the pets' guardians.
• You have a reliable car and live in or very close (within 5 miles) to the community where you will work.
• You have a reliable smartphone that can support our company's software and takes clear photos.
• You can pass a criminal /vehicle background check.
• You are at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate.

Hours/Pay:

Fully trained and certified Cat Specialist Pet Sitters are paid hourly, which averages $25-30/hr. with tips and holiday bonus pay per visit. Employees receive ongoing, paid professional development and training.
