Job summary

UPMC West Shore is seeking a Casual/Per Diem Occupational Therapist to support their acute care patient population. This role provides assessment and treatment with advanced clinical skills in a Rehabilitation Institute setting.

Schedule: 16 weekend hours per month, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, with the ability to pick up additional shifts. The Occupational Therapist will serve as a clinical resource for staff, supervise students, and maintain licensure through ongoing education.

Qualifications

• Provides occupational therapy assessment and treatment per physician referrals.
• Maintains professional licensure and pursues continuing education.
• Collaborates with health care team to optimize patient care.

Responsibilities

• Maintains written documentation for occupational therapy services rendered including initial assessment, follow-up visits, and discharge summaries.
• Co-signs occupational therapy assistant documentation biweekly.
• Communicates patient's status to the referring physician and other health care team members.
• Completes necessary charge and statistical information to reflect the service rendered.
• Schedules patients to meet productivity standards while ensuring delivery of quality patient care.
• Provides verbal and/or written home instructions to patient and/or family members when applicable.
• Supervises students completing internships from various universities as requested.
• Maintains professional license/registration through continuing education to satisfy licensure renewal requirements.
• Performs OT assessment, reassessment and treatment and supervises OT assistants for pediatric to geriatric patients referred by a physician.
• Develops plan of care including goals and treatment plan in accordance with physician referral.
• Modifies plan of care based on patient response and status.
• Works with OT assistants to adjust patient programs as patient status changes.
• Rotates through treatment areas to meet organizational needs.
• Attends staff meetings and in-service education programs.
