About the Job

The Institute of Child Development, housed in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota, occasionally hires casual staff to perform a wide variety of nonacademic and/or academic work responsibilities. The work schedule is casual in nature, meaning the employee can work 14 or fewer hours per week. Casual employees are not eligible for retirement plans, health insurance, vacation, sick leave, or the Regents Scholarship.

This position is based on campus. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by your manager. Job Responsibilities

Support academic and/or research initiatives of the department (100%).

• Draft correspondence and send/respond to email communications
• Organize and track program related documents and files
• Use computer software programs, such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite, University Box, Canvas, Adobe Acrobat
• Comply with university required policies and procedures and complete required trainings as necessary
• Meet as needed with manager and attend scheduled events and meetings in the Institute of Child Development
• Monitor goals and progress of the assigned academic program or research project
• Assist with problem solving, as needed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience equal to four years.
• Ability to communicate with manager and team members over email, phone, and/or videoconference.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Comfortable interacting with children, youth and adults.
• Demonstrated ability to be personable, flexible, and well‑organized.

About the Department

The Institute of Child Development (ICD) at the University of Minnesota is a premier center for scholarship, teaching, and outreach devoted to the understanding and fostering of child development. Founded in 1925, the ICD is one of the oldest departments studying children’s development in the United States. It is housed within the College of Education and Human Development and has an undergraduate program within the College of Liberal Arts.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $15.25 - $25.00 per hour, depending on education/qualifications/experience.
