Job description

The Carnegie Mellon University Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation aims to make a transformative impact through multicultural programs that inspire leadership, collaboration, wellness, and resilience. Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Athletics is seeking multiple Non-CMU Student Part-Time Casual Lifeguards. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in dynamic and challenging environments. It is a part-time role without benefits. Preference will be given to candidates familiar with the Carnegie Mellon community and university facilities.

Core responsibilities include:

  1. Ensure the safety of patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies
  2. Apply knowledge of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques
  3. Understand facilities policies and procedures
  4. Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  1. ARC or YMCA lifeguard training
  2. ARC Standard First Aid & CPR for Professional Rescuer
  3. AED Training
  4. A combination of education and relevant experience demonstrating comparable knowledge

Requirements:

  1. Successful pre-employment background check
  2. Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)

Additional Information:

  1. Sponsorship: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. for CMU. CMU will not sponsor visas. Only the 12-month OPT can be used for employment at CMU.
  2. Fixed Term: This is a fixed-term position.
