Overview

Casual Employee | Department of Public Works – City of Scranton. This is an unskilled labor position requiring heavy repetitive lifting. Duties include heavy and light physical labor, mostly outdoor work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, working in groups or alone depending on the assignment.

Responsibilities

• Collects refuse on designated route.
• Dumps refuse from containers into truck.
• May start packing device on the truck.
• Digs trenches with a pick and shovel to repair storm basins and culverts.
• Mixes concrete and mortar with a hoe in mud pan, wheelbarrow or mixer.
• Shovels and rakes hot and cold asphalt. Uses tampers and rollers to pack materials.
• Builds asphalt or concrete curbs, sidewalks, etc.
• Cuts grass, weeds, brush using push mowers and weed whackers.
• Shovels snow from sidewalks and streets where and when necessary.
• Applies deicing materials manually.
• Uses and maintains tools; lifts, carries, and pushes large bulky items.
• Loads and unloads bulky materials and supplies.
• Provides labor to assist tree crew with removal and trimming trees.
• Leaf bag pickup and vacuum duties.
• Maintains and cleans storm drains.
• Vehicle, equipment, and facility cleaning.
• Performs other physical labor-related work as assigned.

Work Requirements
