Job summary

JAX Jackson General Hospital in Ripley, WV is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to greet patients, obtain initial information and vitals, and prepare exam rooms for provider visits.

You will assist with exams and procedures, manage referrals, and help educate patients on post-visit steps while maintaining clean, stocked rooms and accurate chart documentation.

Qualifications

• Current National Certification as CMA.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms; obtains initial information and vitals.
• Prepares exam rooms for patients and ensures supplies are available.
• Assists with exams, procedures and immunizations.
• Schedules appointments and sets up referrals as needed.
• Assists provider during patient examinations and procedures.
• Educates patients on follow-up expectations.
• Maintains quality control testing logs.
• Ensures medical equipment is in proper working condition.
• Assists patients with completion of medical documentation.
• Records test results in patient charts and notifies patients as needed.
• Cleans and stocks examination rooms weekly.

Job description

Performs basic nursing skills, and/or serves under the direction and supervision of the practice physician, advanced practice professional and/or registered nursing staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification and/or Licensure:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
• Current National Certification as CMA.

Preferred Qualifications

Education, Certification and/or Licensure:

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program strongly preferred.

Experience

• One (1) year of healthcare experience.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms; prepares for provider visit by obtaining initial information and vital signs.
• Prepares exam rooms for patients with attention to cleanliness and availability of supplies.
• Assists with exams (Adult or Child), procedures and immunizations.
• Schedules appointments and sets up referral contacts as needed.
• Assists provider during patient examinations and procedures.
• Educates patients on follow-up expectations.
• Maintains quality control testing logs as required.
• Ensures all medical equipment is in proper working condition.
• Assists patients with completion of medical documentation.
• Records test (lab, radiology, etc.) results in patient charts and contacts patients as necessary regarding tests.
• Thoroughly cleans and stocks each examination room weekly.

Physical Requirements

• Medium work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-12 hour shift.
