Position Summary

Provides casting services to patients of the Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee.

Position Requirements

Formal Education / Training: High School diploma or equivalent required; graduation from a Medical Assistant program and coursework in applying casts and orthopedic devices preferred.

Workplace Experience: At least one year as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Orthopedic Surgical Technician, or related role. Prior experience as a Casting Technician preferred.

Equipment and Skills Training: Knowledge of orthopedic devices, bracing, and casting activities. Ability to operate standard medical office equipment and software, and perform clinical tasks under supervision.

Physical Environment: Family medical practice office.

Physical Effort: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, perform repetitive standing, and have correctable vision and hearing, including color discernment. Must communicate effectively in English.

Performance Standards
  1. Apply casts using various materials such as plaster, synthetic, and plastics.
  2. Adjust orthopedic devices like braces, splints, and compression stockings.
  3. Manage traction equipment.
  4. Remove sutures and staples.
  5. Assist in Operating Room and Ambulatory Surgery.
  6. Maintain cleanliness of exam areas and equipment.
  7. Stock and inventory supplies, reorder as needed.
  8. Document patient care and education related to casting as directed.
  9. Arrange for patient take-home supplies.
  10. Follow universal precautions.
  11. Communicate effectively with patients and team members.
  12. Maintain professionalism in appearance and conduct.
  13. Perform additional duties promptly.
