Job summary

Yale New Haven Health is seeking an Orthopedic Technician to support patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include cast application, brace and splint fabrication, DME application, and maintaining DME inventory.

Two years of orthopedic/ambulatory experience and certification in Orthopedic Technology or Medical Assistance is preferred. Must have anatomy knowledge and good manual dexterity to assist with lifting and positioning patients throughout the workday.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two (2) years of Orthopedic and/or Ambulatory experience required.
• Orthopedic Technician Certification or Medical Assistant certification preferred.
• Must have a knowledge of anatomy and skill in cast application.
• Requires good manual dexterity; ability to use power equipment; assist with lifting patients, stand or walk most of the workday, and use good body mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care under the direction of the registered nurse.
• Greet and escorts patients to the exam room.
• Perform casting procedures and remove casts.
• Fabricate and fit braces and splints according to protocol and physician order.
• Participates in educational activities that contribute to patient care, staff education, and self-development.
• Effectively contributes to the operational support of the clinic.

These duties include cast application, DME application, maintaining DME inventory, technical procedures, and direct and indirect patient care activities that are essential to providing comprehensive care to patients and contribute to the efficient operation of the clinic.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the registered nurse provides patient care.
  • Greets and escorts patients to the exam room.
• Under the direction of the physician or the registered nurse, performs technical procedures which contribute to safe patient care.
  • Removes casts and performs all casting procedures.
• Performs technical duties which contribute to safe patient care.
  • Fabricates and fits braces and splints according to protocol and physician order.
• Participates in educational activities that contribute to patient care, staff education, and self-development.
  • Completes all mandatory training within annual performance period.
• Effectively contributes to the operational support of the clinic.
  • Reports faulty equipment and environmental problems to the nurse manager or designee.

Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or GED required.

Experience

Two (2) years of Orthopedic and/or Ambulatory experience required.

Licensure

Orthopedic Technician Certification or Medical Assistant certification preferred.

Special Skills
