Job summary

The Salvation Army in Roswell, NM is seeking a Part Time/Non-Exempt Store Associate to greet customers, assist donors, manage the cash register, and help operate the thrift store floor.

This role requires good English, basic computer skills, and the ability to supervise volunteers, maintain appearance, and follow supervisor directions. Spanish helpful; must pass background check.

Qualifications

• High School graduate, some college preferred.
• Good written and spoken English.
• Competent in word processing and Excel spreadsheets.
• Possess ability to develop and maintain a working relationship with coworkers.
• Develop and maintain a team of volunteers to work in the thrift store.
• Ability to complete paperwork accurately in a timely manner.
• Be organized and be detail oriented.
• Some Spanish helpful.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Greet all customers politely, answer phone calls in a friendly manner.
• Greet donors, assist in unloading donations, provide donation receipts.
• Attend the cash register while on duty; count drawer with manager before and after each shift; carry register drawer to office for daily count; do not eat or drink at register except water.
• Keep front register area clean and clutter-free; empty donation jar every Friday; enter cash donation into register as “Donation, Dept. 18”
• Place items on racks, shelves, and bins orderly; ensure item quality; report under/over pricing to manager; maintain appearance of main floor including cleaning and organizing as directed by supervisor.
• Supervise volunteers and community service workers on main floor; set appropriate goals; e.g., pull yellow tags into sales rack or clean and arrange shelves by end of shift.
• Set up attractive window displays, beds, tables, lamps, TV; stay aware of holiday displays and set up ahead of season.
• Play pleasant classical or Christian instrumental music similar to Hobby Lobby’s background music
• Report any incident to supervisor
• Accept changes to day off as needed for Family Store best interests
• Attend all store employee meetings, including after-hour meetings and trainings
• Maintain own time card, clock in and out on time
• Price items under direction of Store manager or Assistant Store Manager
