Cashier
Position Objective: To assist customers in their shopping experience by processing sales transactions in the most efficient, friendly, and courteous manner possible.
Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Office Manager.
Status: This is a non-exempt position.
Knowledge
The following are certifications, formal education, or training requirements for this position:
- A valid liquor license must be obtained prior to the first day on the job (if applicable).
- Completion of ongoing training as listed on the Cosentino's Learning Plan.
Skills
Basic skill requirements include:
- Accurately processing payments via cash, check, gift cards, credit/debit cards, coupons, or other approved methods.
- Following procedures for government assistance programs.
- Issuing receipts and correct change.
- Identifying products by PLUs, scale, or produce number.
- Operating cash registers, scanners, check verification equipment, and intercom systems.
- Proper bagging and cashiering techniques to minimize damage and shrink.
- Maintaining a clean and professional front-end appearance.
- Resolving customer complaints professionally.
- Understanding and implementing Customer Service Standards.
- Adhering to health, sanitation, and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of store items, procedures, and policies to answer customer questions accurately and courteously.
- Safe operation and maintenance of all equipment.
- Meeting productivity standards and demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
- Basic math and reading skills.
- Complying with governmental regulations regarding weights, measures, alcohol, tobacco, and food assistance programs.
Non-Essential Job Functions
- Training new cashiers as directed.
- Promoting sales through suggestive selling.
- Restocking returned items.
- Supporting additional tasks and gaining new skills as needed.
Physical Abilities
Expected physical movements include:
- Reaching overhead, twisting, lifting up to 10 lbs.
- Pushing/pulling carts and items up to 25 lbs.
- Standing and walking for long periods.
- Lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs.
- Bending and squatting to floor level.
Non-Essential Abilities
- Climbing ladders up to 5 ft.
