Job summary

Henry Ford St. John Hospital is seeking a part-time Gift Shop Associate to support patient and visitor services in Detroit. The 20-hour-week role requires flexible scheduling including weekends and holidays, with responsibilities like processing payments, stocking, pricing, and delivering items within the hospital.

You will balance cash, operate the POS system, and provide courteous customer service. Prior retail experience and computer skills are preferred to succeed in a busy hospital

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• Excellent interpersonal skills in person and over the phone.
• Three years previous retail experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills to operate the register.
• Basic math skills for sales transactions.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Process cash, check, credit/debit payments and issue receipts, change, credits or refunds.
• Operate cash registers and ensure accurate transaction accounting.
• Balance cash drawers at the beginning and end of each shift.
• In retail, assist with receiving, stocking, pricing and displaying merchandise.
• Maintain a clean and organized checkout area.
• Provide customer service, take phone orders, and arrange in-hospital deliveries.
• Opening and closing duties including cash and credit card balancing.
• Unpack and price inventory; merchandise display experience is preferred.
• Assist with training volunteers as needed and work with minimal supervision.

• Travel required if needed to other campuses on occasion

Department: Gift Shop

Schedule: 20 hours per week; variable days & hours including weekends and holidays

Responsibilities

• Receives payment by cash, check, credit card and debit card and issues receipts, change, credits or refunds to customers.
• Operates cash registers and ensures accurate and efficient accounts of all transactions.
• Balances cash receipts and counts cash drawers at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure correct balance.
• In retail setting, assists with the receiving, unpacking, stocking, displaying, pricing, and sales of merchandise.
• Maintains clean and organized checkout area.
• Customer service friendly personality, select gift items for customers, take phone orders, and make in hospital deliveries
• Cash register experience
• General computer experience preferred
• Opening & Closing responsibilities including but not limited to cash & credit card balancing
• Unpacking and pricing inventory
• Merchandise display experience preferred
• Assist with training volunteers as needed
• Must be able to work with minimal or no supervision
• Requires critical thinking skills-decisive judgement-handle a stressful environment

Qualifications

_ EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED_

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
• Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.

Additional Information

Gift Shop Hours are:

• Monday-Friday 11:00am –7:30pm
• Saturday & Sunday 11:30am – 4:30pm
