Job Summary/Overview

The Cashier/Counter Attendant is the welcoming first point of contact for guests at The Faregrounds. This entry-level role takes and processes orders, supports accurate and efficient food and beverage handoff, maintains a clean guest-facing service area, and helps create an upbeat, organized experience across Faregrounds restaurants and concessions. Team members may be scheduled at Perch Coffee & Creamery, The Roost Bar, Cow Bird Express, The Yard Pizza Bar, Lucky Sparrow, or other event-service locations as business needs require.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Welcome every guest in a friendly, professional manner; answer basic questions about menus, ingredients, pricing, and service flow; and help guests select items when appropriate.
  • Accurately enter food and beverage orders into the point-of-sale (POS) system, process cash and credit-card payments, issue receipts, and follow all cash-handling and drawer-security procedures.
  • Verify orders before handoff, communicate clearly with kitchen and/or bar teammates, and resolve routine order concerns promptly by involving a supervisor when needed.
  • Receive and organize online orders to ensure accurate assembly and quick customer pick-up.
  • Maintain a clean, stocked, and guest-ready counter area, including menus, condiments, beverage stations, pickup shelves, disposable serviceware, and dining-area touchpoints as assigned.
  • Follow all company food-safety, sanitation, personal-hygiene, and safety practices, including proper handling of allergen-related questions and escalation of dietary requests to a supervisor or kitchen team member.
  • Support responsible alcohol service when assigned to an alcohol-service location: check identification, follow company age-verification procedures, recognize when to request manager assistance, and never serve alcohol outside established policy.
  • Assist with opening, closing, restocking, basic inventory counts, cleaning, trash removal, and event-day setup or breakdown as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with cooks, bartenders, other counter attendants, and management to maintain quick, accurate service during high-volume periods, events, and swim meets.
  • Learn and follow all Faregrounds operational standards, appearance expectations, and guest-service procedures; be willing to work at multiple concepts as trained.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications (Education, Experience, Technical Skills)
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; current high school students may be considered where permitted by law.
  • No prior restaurant experience is required. Customer-service, cashier, retail, concession, or food-service experience is a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to learn POS systems, menu knowledge, cash-handling procedures, and food-and-beverage-service standards.
Technical Requirements:
  • Basic ability to use a touchscreen POS system, payment terminal, and handheld communication tools after training.
  • Ability to accurately count cash, make change, and perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Effective verbal communication skills and the ability to present information clearly to guests and coworkers.
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Friendly, reliable, and attentive guest-service approach.
  • Ability to follow directions, work as part of a team, and ask for help when a guest need or safety concern requires escalation.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and cleanliness.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, holidays, and event days, as required.
  • Willingness to learn menu items, ingredient basics, dietary restrictions, and allergen-awareness procedures.
  • Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to lift, carry, or move supplies up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Certifications and Licenses
  • Food-handler training or certification is preferred and may be required within the timeframe established by company policy.
  • Safe alcohol-service training is required before independently serving alcoholic beverages, when assigned to alcohol-service duties, in accordance with company policy.
  • A Florida driver license is not required for this position.
