Food Clerk-Cashier

Part-Time – Hourly

Primary Responsibilities

• Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely.
• Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using electronic cash registers, scanners, and scales.
• Clean register area by sweeping floors, cleaning check lanes, registers, and scales.
• Prevent loss of money and merchandise through careful handling, accurate pricing, and proper use of store procedures for coupons, WIC, vouchers, checks, credit, and debit cards.
• Ensure safety of self, customers, and co-workers by following store safety rules and reporting hazards.
• Bag customer purchases efficiently and correctly.
• Operate and understand safety requirements of cash registers, scanners, scales, and intercom systems.
• Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors, including substituting for absent workers and additional duties to serve customers.

Supervision: Cashiers report directly to the Front-End Manager or Store Manager.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service skills.
• Basic mathematics skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience in a related field preferred.

Specific Tasks

• Stand for at least 4 hours.
• Lift up to 40 lbs from 6 inches to 48 inches.
• Move up to 40 lbs up to 15 feet.
• Pick up items from floor, case, shelf, or cart.
• Retrieve merchandise from high shelves (~84 inches).
• Bend and twist at the waist during cleaning and stocking.

Work Environment

Indoor environment with temperature, humidity, and dust transitions due to store opening and closing.
