Consistently provides friendly and cooperative service to internal and external customers at our retail locations, which operate 24/7 with limited exceptions. Responsibilities include processing customer orders efficiently, accurately, safely, and courteously at check stands, self-checkout lanes, or customer service desks.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Welcomes, engages, serves, and thanks customers, maintaining a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere focused on customer care.
- Operates check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales to process customer orders across two aisles.
- Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
- Handles monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons, and refunds, adhering to all cash handling policies.
- Maintains knowledge of product locations, monitors UPC codes, and ensures proper pricing.
- Keeps check stands clean, neat, stocked, and ensures a safe work environment.
- Stocks, prices, and rotates merchandise.
- May be assigned to self-checkout lanes or customer service as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Follows laws concerning sale of restricted items and adheres to USDA Food Stamp or WIC procedures.
Additional Self-Checkout Attendant Duties
- Moves within SCO area to expedite transactions and maintain safety.
- Engages with customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist and ensure accuracy.
- Responds to alerts/errors and monitors transactions in a fast-paced environment.
- Maintains awareness of the area, anticipates customer needs, and monitors transaction activity.
- Prioritizes safety and reports concerns as per company policy.
Requirements
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Provide friendly and courteous customer service with composure.
- Effective communication skills (hearing and speech).
- Visual inspection and reading information on merchandise.
- Lift objects up to 20 lbs. frequently; up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Operate check stand equipment.
- Stand, sit, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for long periods.
- Must be 16 or older.
- Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination.
- Memorize product codes, locations, and company policies.
- Ensure accuracy in transactions and handling money using basic math skills.
- Occasional use of blades for box cutting and household cleaners for cleaning.
- Manage high-stress situations and high-volume transactions.
Additional Requirements
- Food safety/handlers cards, tobacco, and alcohol sales certification as required by law.
Hours may differ for minors, along with machine and equipment operation.
