Position Title: Cashier (Front Counter / Expo / Cashier)

Location: King's Famous Barbecue, 2910 S. Crater Rd. Petersburg, VA

Job Type: Part-time / Full-time

Reports to: Operations Manager / General Manager/ Owners

Fast casual restaurants combine quick service with higher-quality, customizable food. The cashier role is fast-paced, customer-facing, and often includes a mix of order-taking, payment processing, order assembly/expo, and light front-of-house duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet customers warmly and enthusiastically as they approach the counter or enter the restaurant, creating a welcoming first impression
  • Accurately take and confirm customer orders (often involving customization)
  • Enter orders quickly and precisely into the point-of-sale (POS) system
  • Process payments efficiently via cash, credit/debit cards, mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay), and gift cards; provide correct change when needed
  • Assemble and package orders, ensuring accuracy and appealing presentation
  • Upsell add-ons, sides, drinks, or promotions in a friendly, non-pushy way
  • Answer customer questions about menu items, ingredients, allergens, pricing, and promotions
  • Handle customer concerns or complaints calmly and professionally, escalating to a manager when necessary
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary cashier/expo station throughout the shift
  • Assist with front-of-house tasks during slower periods or as needed, such as:
    • Restocking utensils, napkins, cups, lids, and sauces
    • Wiping down tables and high-touch surfaces
    • Sweeping/mopping spills
    • Refilling drink stations or bagging to-go items
  • Perform opening/closing duties including cash drawer reconciliation, preparing the station, and ensuring everything is ready for the next shift
Requirements & Qualifications
  • No formal education required — high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous customer service, retail, or restaurant experience is a plus
  • Ability to thrive in a very fast-paced, high-volume environment during peak hours
  • Strong communication skills and a genuinely friendly, positive attitude
  • Basic math skills for handling cash and making change quickly
  • Comfortable standing for long periods (most shifts involve 6–8 hours on your feet)
  • Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented — you’ll work closely with line/prep staff and managers
  • Ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure
