Job description

SUMMARY

Receives payment for service and parts transactions and plays a key role in maintaining or creating customer satisfaction. Hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The day off is flexible of either Tuesday or Thursday.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Greets customers at the cashier window in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Computes customer bills.
  • Receives cash, checks and credit card payments from customers; records amount received.
  • Makes change and issues receipts to customers.
  • Provides cash refunds or credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise.
  • Refers customers who have questions about the work performed, additional maintenance, or repairs, etc. to the service advisor or other appropriate individual.
  • Handles customer complaints with integrity and poise and, when necessary, refers dissatisfied customers to the appropriate individuals for resolution.
  • Maintains and files repair orders, parts invoices, rental forms; lists missing documents.
  • Answers incoming calls and routes to the appropriate department.
  • Provides clerical and secretarial assistance to parts and service departments.
  • Works with department manager to keep abreast of new products and services offered, their features and value, and any changes in price.
  • Maintains a professional appearance.
  • Keeps work area neat and clean.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • No prior experience or training.
  • Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to accurately make change for cash payments.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
