Job summary

Builders FirstSource is seeking a Retail Cashier to greet customers, handle transactions at the register, and provide product information in a fast-paced home improvement store environment. You will assist customers with purchases, refunds, and changes, while maintaining accurate cash handling and a clean, organized workspace.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED and six months of related experience; prior cashier or customer service experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Experience with customer service and cashier responsibilities is desirable.
• Ability to handle cash, process payments, and provide accurate change.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and process payments at the register.
• Provide product information and direct customers to locations as needed.
• Open/close till, document transactions, and balance receipts.
• Process refunds, credits, or exchanges and issue receipts.
• Provide telephone assistance to customers and maintain a helpful attitude.
• Keep the work area clean and organized and assist with stocking inventory.
• Support annual inventory activities and display preparation.
• Follow safety procedures and participate in safety meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

PURPOSE

Under direct supervision, greets incoming customers in a pleasant and professional manner. Processes payment of customer purchases at retail locations. Counts money to verify amounts and issues receipts for funds received using a cash register

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Greets customers and receives payment; issues receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers; package customer purchases; thanks customers for their business.
2. Acknowledges incoming customers in a pleasant manner and provides product information, location, and general store knowledge. Directs customer to product pick-up point, if necessary.
3. Opens and closes-out till and accurately documents all transactions, makes accurate change, verifies credit cards and checks, and balances receipts.
4. Provides prompt and efficient telephone service.
5. Keeps work area clean and neat.
6. Assists in pricing and stocking inventory, display preparation and maintenance, and maintains quality store presentation.
7. Participates in annual physical inventory activities.
8. Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
9. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and six (6) months related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
