Job summary

Builders FirstSource is hiring a customer-focused team member to greet customers, process payments, and provide product information at our retail locations. You will handle transactions, issue receipts, and maintain accurate cash handling practices.

Daily tasks include assisting with pricing, stocking, inventory counts, and delivering great store experiences. Applicants should enjoy teamwork, safety procedures, and helping customers find what they need.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Six months related retail or cashier experience.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and receive payment; issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due.
• Acknowledge customers and provide product information; direct to pickup point if needed.
• Open/close till, document transactions, balance receipts, verify payments.
• Provide prompt and efficient telephone service.
• Keep work area clean and neat.
• Assist in pricing and stocking inventory and display maintenance.
• Participate in annual physical inventory activities.
• Follow safety procedures and attend safety meetings; suggest safety improvements.
• Other duties may be assigned.

PURPOSE

Under direct supervision, greets incoming customers in a pleasant and professional manner. Processes payment of customer purchases at retail locations. Counts money to verify amounts and issues receipts for funds received using a cash register

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Greets customers and receives payment; issues receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers; package customer purchases; thanks customers for their business.
2. Acknowledges incoming customers in a pleasant manner and provides product information, location, and general store knowledge. Directs customer to product pick-up point, if necessary.
3. Opens and closes-out till and accurately documents all transactions, makes accurate change, verifies credit cards and checks, and balances receipts.
4. Provides prompt and efficient telephone service.
5. Keeps work area clean and neat.
6. Assists in pricing and stocking inventory, display preparation and maintenance, and maintains quality store presentation.
7. Participates in annual physical inventory activities.
8. Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
9. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and six (6) months related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMPETENCIES

• Strong customer service skills both face-to-face and telephone
• Working knowledge in the use and operation of a cash register
• Good mathematical aptitude
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to be detailed oriented
