Job summary

Wegmans is seeking friendly cashiers to ensure customers end their shopping trips with a positive experience. In traditional checkout and self-checkout lanes, you’ll deliver proactive customer service and help turn first-time shoppers into loyal Wegmans customers.

As a cashier, you’ll scan items, process payments, bag groceries, and assist customers with the self-checkout system. The role emphasizes teamwork, accuracy, and a welcoming, helpful attitude in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Collective customer service experience, internally and/or externally preferably in a food service, grocery or retail setting.
• Work Environment: The physical demands of this work are light to medium; standing and frequent reaching are expected.
• The work environment is indoors.
• Experience operating a cash register.

Responsibilities

• Engage customers in friendly conversation while making eye contact and smiling; proactively offer additional assistance, thank customers for shopping at Wegmans
• When on register, efficiently and accurately scan items and process payments
• Properly bag items to ensure products arrive at their destination in the condition they left the store
• When in self-checkout area, manage traffic flow, direct customers to available lanes, ensure the lanes are in good working order and assist customers with system troubleshooting
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work space

Collective customer service experience, internally and/or externally preferably in a food service, grocery or retail setting; Work Environment: The physical demands of this work are classified as light to medium. Work includes repetitive hand and arm movements, lifting, standing for up to 4 hours without a break, occasional bending, frequent reaching, moving and lifting, frequent to constant turning to the left, along with continuous interaction with customers and coworkers in a fast-paced environment. The average weight range of items lifted is 5-12 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 40 pounds occasionally. Upper extremity repetition is moderately high and trunk movement involves moderately high twisting, bending, and pivoting. May receive assistance with heavy items, if available. May be exposed to various allergens (things that may cause an allergic reaction). The work environment is indoors. Basic tools and equipment used include cash register, scan gun, shopping bags and bagging fixtures, and shopping carts and baskets.; Experience operating a cash register
