Cash Receipts Clerk - Eastern Long Island Hospital

Position Summary

The Cash Receipts Clerk is responsible for coding, verifying, totaling and posting of cash receipts to proper patient accounts.

Please Note: This is a Union position.

Duties of a Cash Receipts Clerk may include but are not limited to:

  • Coding and verification of mail and window receipts.
  • Preparation of cash receipts for input into accounts receivable computer system.
  • Calculation of Medicare, Blue Cross and other ins allowances on EOB vouchers.
  • Verification of cash in-put entered on the system with cash posted.
  • Daily and monthly maintenance of un-posted cash accounts.
  • Posting of charges
  • Greets all patients, co-workers in a pleasant, respectful manner and responds promptly to requests while always displaying courtesy.
  • Performs all duties in an independent manner with minimal supervision.Able to recognize and deal with priorities.
  • Demonstrates ability to tactfully handle difficult situations even if a co-worker, physician or patient is upset.
  • Assists with Performance Improvement activities
  • Performs other responsibilities as deemed necessary by supervisor
  • Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental rules and regulations
  • Participates in in-service program

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of clerical experience
  • Computer and typing experience
  • Ability to use a calculator, scanner, copy machine and fax
  • Experience in working with numbers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in accounting
  • 3 or more years of hospital and patient accounts knowledge
  • Knowledge of postage machine and mail distribution
  • Experience with verification of cash inputs (debits and credits) and scanning transaction codes

Physical Demands:

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBEILH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Your total compensation goes beyond the number in your paycheck!

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Eastern Long Island’s Employee Health Services *
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

*The Human Resources department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.
