In this role, you'll be responsible for counting and balancing registers, managing the safe, investigating discrepancies, and ensuring cashiers have everything they need to serve customers smoothly.If you are detail-oriented, trustworthy, and thrive in a role where accuracy really matters, we'd love to have you on our team.What You'll DoNo two days are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and making every interaction a positive oneCount registers after each cashier shift across all areas of the store and balance each register for cash and coinEnsure each cash pull is placed in the safe and that registers have adequate cash on hand, loaning money from the safe to registers as necessarySort checks, coupons, payouts, and charges and place them in the appropriate register filesCalculate cash over and short amounts and investigate any discrepanciesApprove checks written for cash or payment of merchandise purchasesReconcile money orders, Western Union, utilities, bank cards, gift cards, and other applicable itemsPerform all register operations functions and stay knowledgeable of look-up numbers, department numbers, and item featuresTroubleshoot mechanical register issues such as receipt paper jams and act as cashier where applicableTrain cashiers and maintain an ongoing training programOperate menu-driven computer programs using a mouse, 10-key keypad, and alphanumeric keyboardAssist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assignedMaintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelinesReport to work when scheduled and on timeYour SkillsTo be successful, you'll need to be able to:Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers accurately and efficientlyCarry out detailed written and verbal instructions with care and precisionFile, post, sort, and organize materials and paperworkRead and follow product safety information as neededMaintain a high level of discretion and integrity when handling confidential financial informationCommunicate professionally with customers, cashiers, and store leadershipReporting RelationshipsAccountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of GM, Perishables, and Store Operations; Service ManagersEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent experience required6 months to 1 year of similar or related experience preferredPhysical RequirementsFrequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areasWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparationWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipmentWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standardsPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation dutiesWorking EnvironmentThis role is primarily performed in a store environment where you'll handle cash, registers, and financial records throughout your shift.
