Job summary

Catholic Charities is hiring a Caseworker Coach I for Rachel’s Promise Center to support single women and women with children in shelter settings. You will help residents set achievable goals and connect them with housing resources, while maintaining safety, dignity, and wellness.

Responsibilities include intake, trauma-informed support, documenting progress in HMIS, coordinating with partners, and promoting a collaborative, service-oriented environment within the program.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in human services or related field, or 1 year shelter/case management experience.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow.
  • Good listening skills.
  • Spanish reading/writing/speaking preferred but not required.
  • Pass background check.
  • Trauma-informed approaches knowledge.
  • Familiar with Motivational Interviewing, Housing First a plus.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use HMIS systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and orient residents to shelter; complete initial intakes.
  • Provide trauma-informed, resident-centered support and promote safety.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment.
  • Prepare meals and oversee after-meal clean-up; ensure supplies.
  • Help residents develop life skills (showering, laundry, etc.).
  • Assist residents in achieving goals and document progress.
  • Help residents gather documents to obtain housing.
  • Ensure facility is clean and well-maintained; supervise chores.
  • Document significant events in End of Shift emails and logs.
  • Facilitate access to technology for meetings with staff/providers.
  • Foster trauma-informed, safety-focused culture.
  • Develop knowledge of county resources for homelessness.
  • Participate in case management and program meetings.
  • Collaborate with Catholic Charities and external agencies.
  • Document contacts in Clarity HMIS and CES as required.
  • Submit monthly reports promptly.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

POSITION TITLE: Caseworker Coach I, (Residential Support Specialist) Rachel’s Promise Center for Women and Children

REPORTS TO: Senior Program Manager, Homeless Services, San Diego

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

TIME COMMITMENT: Full Time (40 hours/week) Mornings (includes one weekend shift)

SALARY: $20.40-22.40 per hour DOE

POSITION SUMMARY

The Caseworker Coach I is an essential member of the Rachel’s Promise Center for Women and Children team and is responsible for ensuring single adult women and women with children are served in clean and safe environments and supported in setting and achieving realistic goals that lead to safe, stable housing. The Caseworker Coach will develop a strong knowledge of community resources and build collaborative working relationships with colleagues within and outside of Catholic Charities. They motivate, support, and guide program residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Welcome and orient program residents (single adult women and women with children) to the shelter; complete initial intakes and explain program routines and behavioral expectations.
  • Provide trauma-informed, resident-centered support to single adult women and women with children, and promote safety, dignity, and wellness in the residential setting.
  • Maintain a consistent presence in the facility and support residents’ physical, emotional, and psychological safety, including child and family safety, as applicable.
  • Prepare meal supplies and assist with serving meals as needed while overseeing after-meal clean-up and ensure supplies are fully stocked for the following day.
  • Assist residents in developing life skills (e.g. how to use showers, and laundry facilities, maintain the environment, resolve conflicts, navigate the social service delivery system, etc.).
  • Support residents in following through on established goals (problem-solving), checking in with residents after off-site appointments, documenting progress and barriers to success, and identifying possible solutions.
  • Assist residents in gathering and obtaining documents necessary to achieve their goals and obtain housing.
  • Ensure the facility is clean and well-maintained, and support residents in completing chores in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Keep supervisor apprised of issues, problems, complaints, and/or concerns expressed by residents.
  • Document significant events in the End of Shift email sent to the other team members and services provided to clients; maintain sign-in logs, and any other record-keeping processes.
  • When applicable, facilitate residents’ access to technology used to meet with internal Catholic Charities and external service providers.
  • Foster a trauma-informed, safety-focused culture within Rachel’s Promise Center for Women and Children.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of county-wide resources that address the needs of single adult women and women with children experiencing homelessness.
  • Participate in case management, training conferences, and program monthly meetings as scheduled.
  • Work collaboratively with coworkers within Catholic Charities Homeless Programs and establish and nurture collaborative relationships with colleagues from other agencies providing similar or complementary services.
  • Document all contacts with residents in Clarity HMIS and associated local files; include information into CES (Coordinated Entry System), if required.
  • Complete and submit all required monthly reports and assigned paperwork as needed promptly and accurately.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate’s degree in human services, social or behavioral sciences, or related field; or at least one year of experience providing shelter services and/or case management to women, children, and families experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and/or mental illness required.
  • A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn and grow.
  • Well-developed listening skills.
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred but not required, must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches to service delivery.
  • Prior knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, Housing First, and harm reduction approaches to service delivery a plus.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to become proficient with database software. Must be able to complete training to enter information into Clarity Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
  • Willing and able to obtain a Food Handler’s Certificate.
  • Ability to work effectively alone or as part of a team.
