The Fatherhood Program provides individual, group and family services to non-custodial fathers and their families in Brooklyn. The program mission is to support non-custodial fathers to become more responsible parents through economic stability, healthy relationships, and connection to their children.

Responsibilities Include

  • Provide strength based assessment and set goals in partnership with fathers to create and implement individualized service plans.
  • Refer, advocate and collaborate within benefits, housing, employment, education, child support, child welfare, criminal justice, mental health, substance abuse systems.
  • Facilitate parenting groups based on a provided curriculum.
  • Provide support to increase connection with children and healthy relationships with co-parents, including review of child support status, visit coaching and visit hosting.
  • Conduct office and community based sessions; accompany clients to appointments as needed.
  • Provide crisis intervention and manage emergencies as needed.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement events and activities for participants and their families.
  • Collaborate across SCO program areas to enhance relationships and effective practice with shared families.
  • Complete all required documentation and statistical reports within deadlines.
  • Attend weekly supervision, team meetings and all necessary meetings and trainings.
  • Strong sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics present among staff and clients.
  • Familiarity with traditional and diverse perspectives on child discipline and family functioning.
  • Committed to being an active contributor to the vision and mission of the program.
  • Works to create and support a respectful learning environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS; human services field preferred.
  • 3-years’ experience working with families and providing parenting services to men preferred.
  • Previous direct service work with men and families.
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills.
  • Preference given to candidates from the communities in Brooklyn primarily served.
  • Self-initiated, motivated and well-organized.
  • Possess a social justice perspective and ability to collaborate with culturally and socioeconomically diverse groups.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Facility with data systems and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and Saturdays.
  • Non-conventional applicants encouraged to apply.

Work Environment And Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit at a desk with ergonomically appropriate equipment and drive/take public transportation to multiple SCO/community partner locations. As part of the duties of this job, it may be necessary to assist with the transport of training equipment and room set-ups. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
