Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies supporting services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. We are leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children, youth, families, homeless individuals, and older adults throughout Manhattan and New York City. Our mission is to work every day for a fair and just society where all people can make choices leading to better lives for themselves and their families. The Isaacs Center primarily focuses on children, low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers, operating community centers in East Harlem and Yorkville with impactful, innovative, and intergenerational programs.

Program Description: The Senate is a permanent supportive housing residence for formerly homeless adults, many with mental illness, substance abuse/dependence, and co-morbid medical diagnoses. On-site services include medication monitoring, case management, money management, entitlement assistance, medical and psychiatric care, substance abuse counseling, work readiness training, 24/7 front desk security, and group activities.

Purpose of Position: The Senate seeks a dynamic individual to provide case management services to formerly homeless adults diagnosed with severe persistent mental illness, helping tenants maintain permanent housing and work towards their goals using a client-centered approach.

Schedule: Sunday-Thursday 9am-5pm

Salary: $45,730.13 - $57,162.66

Candidates must meet the required qualifications for consideration. The salary offer will reflect the candidate’s experience and additional qualifications.

  • Provide case management services to assigned clients.
  • Identify treatment goals and assist clients in achieving them, linking to community programs.
  • Coordinate with medical and psychiatric providers.
  • Provide onsite medication monitoring.
  • Assist clients with visits to healthcare providers and entitlement offices.
  • Maintain case records and documentation of services and outcomes.
  • Help clients receive entitlements and understand building rules and subsidies.
  • Collaborate with other program staff to coordinate services.
  • Encourage participation among resistant clients and conduct floor meetings.
  • Participate as a team member, attend meetings, and lead group activities.
  • Maintain a resource directory and track outcome data.
  • Perform other duties, including inspections and policy reviews.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work or related field.
  • Experience with individuals with severe mental illness, substance abuse, or co-occurring disorders preferred.
  • Spanish speaking preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Understanding of housing first, mental illness, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to multitask and manage crises.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
  • Team player.

Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Excel; able to learn databases like AWARDS.

Physical Requirements: Some walking and travel for client appointments, occasional visits to hospitals.

Work Environment: Mostly indoor office, with occasional group and client visits.

Benefits: Eligible for union benefits with Local 74.
