Program and Role Summary

Wayfinder’s The Haven which opened in 2024 in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Refugee Resettlement, provides shelter and long-term foster care for unaccompanied children. The program assists children ages 0 to 17 and pregnant or parenting teenagers who enter the country alone and do not have a parent or legal guardian in the U.S. to care for them. The program includes a group home on our L.A. campus housing boys ages 12 to 17, basic foster care in family homes for children ages 0 to 17, and therapeutic foster care in the homes of trained families for children ages 0 to 17 with significant emotional, behavioral, medical or developmental needs.Wayfinder addresses these children’s complex, intertwined needs; provides stability; reduces trauma; and locates suitable sponsors.

The primary focus on the Case Manager II works with the Federal Field Specialist to identify potential sponsors for unaccompanied children. The Case Manager will assist in coordinating the Individual Service Plans for UC (Unaccompanied Children) to aid in transitioning UCs (Unaccompanied Children) to their prospective release plans.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for completing appropriate documentation, assists with the implementation of the UCs Individual Service Plans.
  • The ability to implement case plans through good professional judgment while maintaining a team approach is essential.
  • Liaises with the UCs, FFS (Federal Field Specialists), families and sponsors.
  • Must complete crisis prevention/intervention training (Pro-ACT) within the first 90 days of employment and willingly support incidents of crisis intervention and client de-escalation.
  • Provides support and technical assistance to partners related to issues of service delivery, documentation, reporting, and Child Welfare best practices, and federal guidelines.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field from an accredited university is required.
  • A minimum of two years of direct experience working in the human services or social services field is required.
  • Proficiency in a second language is required.
  • Experience working with traumatized/exploited children and children with behavioral problems.
  • Valid Californiadriver's license.
