Job summary

City and County of Denver is seeking a Correctional Case Specialist I to manage cognitive behavioral groups for male clients and coordinate individual and group sessions. You will track progress, document interactions, and collaborate with clinical staff to tailor plans.

A strong background in community corrections and research interviews is essential. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in social or behavioural sciences or related fields, with CPR/AED, Naloxone, and First Aid certifications

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in social or behavioural sciences, Criminal Justice, or related field.
  • Experience: Direct experience in community corrections or related field preferred.
  • Certifications: CPR/AED, Naloxone, and First Aid certifications after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Direct care and facilitation of cognitive behavioral groups with the client population.
  • Monitoring of clients during structured time.
  • Model pro-social behaviors and provide ongoing behavior change feedback to clients.
  • Conduct individual meetings to address criminogenic needs.
  • Attend weekly treatment team meetings and document interactions.
  • Provide referrals to address criminogenic needs not covered by the curriculum.
  • Complete SOA-R assessments and case plans with clients.
  • Assist with discharge planning and collaborate with clinical staff.

Location

This position will be based at our newest facility, serving male and male‑identifying clients, located at: 4511 E. 46 Ave, Denver, CO 80216.

Interested applicants must be available to work non‑traditional shifts and workdays.

This case management role will be responsible for a caseload up to 20 participants. Successful candidates must complete and pass a background investigation that encompasses the applicant's employment and criminal history.

The goal of Denver Community Corrections is to teach clients practical skills and tools needed to be successful upon reentry into the community. Emphasis is placed on treatment that specifically addresses criminogenic risk/needs by using social learning skill‑building activities to assist with cognitive, social, emotional, and coping skill development. It utilizes the Cognitive Behavioral Interventions – A Comprehensive Curriculum (CBI‑CC) treatment model.

Job Responsibilities
  • Direct care and facilitation of cognitive behavioral groups with the client population.
  • Monitoring of clients during structured time.
  • Model pro‑social behaviors and providing on‑going behavior change feedback to clients.
  • Individual meetings with clients to address their individual criminogenic needs.
  • Attend weekly treatment team meetings.
  • Documenting individual and group client interactions.
  • Providing referrals as appropriate to address criminogenic needs that are not targeted through CBI‑CC Curriculum.
  • Completing the Standardized Offender Assessment – Revised (SOA‑R).
  • Completing case plans in collaboration with the client.
  • Discharge planning with client and assigned Clinical staff.
  • Participating in ongoing training to further enhance working with the population.
  • Assist other Denver community programs when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Have experience working in Community Corrections or with a Criminal Justice Involved Population.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Knowledge of research and interviewing techniques sufficient to be able to determine what information is needed, secure and analyze desired information, and formulate logical recommendations.
  • Consistent attention to detail and the ability to multi‑task.
  • Commitment to working collaboratively within a team to ensure work is completed timely.
  • Motivated to work with high risk/high need clients and ability to demonstrate a healthy working alliance with clients to assist them with behavior change and risk reduction.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education Requirement: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social or behavioural sciences, Criminal Justice, or related fields required.
  • Experience Requirement: Experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities preferred.
  • Education and Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post‑high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certification Requirement: Possession of, or ability to obtain, Adult CPR, AED, Naloxone, and First Aid certifications after date of hire. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
