Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) administers a range of correctional services at the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility in Woodville, Mississippi. The role centers on counseling inmates, assessing personal development needs, and coordinating programs to support rehabilitation and safe return to the community.

You will provide individual and group counseling, document progress, and collaborate on program modifications while upholding safety and accountability standards in a secure

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in counseling or related field; 1 year related experience required.
• Four years of correctional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
• Must have license or certification as required by governing state agency.
• Valid driver's license in MS or LA with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Review detailed background file, conduct personal interview and test as necessary to analyze and recommend a program for each assigned inmate.
• Initiate and maintain individual PSD folder on each inmate.
• Provide direct aid and counseling to inmates with personal needs or problems.
• Provide continuous educational, vocational, personal and social adjustment counseling on an individual and group basis; modify programs as needed.
• Monitor progress and maintain documentation and records for each inmate's development program.
• Utilize new concepts and approaches; conduct training sessions to improve staff proficiency in guidance and social adjustment.
• Recommend medical or psychiatric evaluation for emotional or psychological problems and take remedial action as warranted.
• Assist in evaluating facility services and recommend improvements.
• Promote development of positive social skills by modeling behavior and intervening when necessary.
• Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.

Pay: $19.50 per hour

Schedule: Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

Essential Duties:

1. Review detailed background file, conduct personal interview and test as necessary to analyze and recommend a program for each assigned inmate

2. Initiate and maintain individual personal social development (PSD) folder on each assigned inmate

3. Provide direct aid and counseling to inmates with personal needs or problems, i.e., sickness, injury, family problems, and other related personal problems

4. Provide continuous educational, vocational, personal and social adjustment counseling on an individual and group basis. Recommend necessary program modifications throughout each assigned inmate's stay

5. Conduct continuous interpretation and evaluation of progress in inmate's specific development program. Coordinate problem cases and point out areas in which guidance and development techniques can be improved. Maintain documentation and records

6. Utilize new concepts and approaches. Recommend and conduct training sessions and conferences to develop greater proficiency among staff in areas of guidance and social adjustment

7. Recommend medical or psychiatric evaluation for emotional or psychological problems. Evaluate results and take remedial action as warranted

8. Assist in the evaluation of facility services for inmates and recommend modifications for improvement

9. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed

10. Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices

Education and experience requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in counseling or related field required and one (1) year related experience required

• Four years of correctional experience may be considered in lieu of education

• Must have license or certification as required by governing state agency

• Valid driver's license in the state of Mississippi or Louisiana with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements

• Must successfully complete all annual in-service requirements.
