Job summary

Michigan State University is seeking a Dining Service Worker I for Case Dining Hall to be the face of our residential dining rooms, preparing and serving meals while engaging with students, faculty and staff.

You will prep and stock stations, collaborate with the culinary team, uphold food safety, and adapt to a fast-paced university environment with consistent evening shifts.

Qualifications

• Casual knowledge of food ingredients and correct preparation and serving techniques is necessary.
• One-year satisfactory experience in a food-related area or equivalent education/experience.
• Willingness to work a flexible shift is necessary.
• Standards of personal hygiene consistent with sanitation rules and regulations.
• Occasional lifting of 26 to 75 pounds is required.

Responsibilities

• Prep, organize, and stock salad bars, hot and cold stations, and made-to-order lines.
• Work with culinary team to portion dishes and serve guests directly from stations.
• Maintain proper food handling and storage techniques to reduce waste.
• Provide a welcoming, friendly face to students, faculty, staff and visitors.
• Uphold food safety standards and assist with station-by-station maintenance.
• Collaborate with staff to ensure timely service during shifts.

Position Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic Dining Service Worker I to help us craft exceptional dining experiences for our university community. In this role, you will be the face of our residential dining halls, interacting directly with students, visitors, faculty and staff while prepping and serving fresh, delicious meals.

What You Will Do

• Craft & Create: Prep, organize, and stock vibrant salad bars, hot and cold food stations, and exciting made-to-order service lines.
• Collaborate Daily: Work side-by-side with our talented culinary team to combine ingredients, portion dishes, and serve guest s directly from active stations.
• Own Your Station: Keep our kitchen sustainable by applying proper food handling and storage techniques to reduce waste and prevent spoilage.

• Connect with Community: Serve as a welcoming, friendly fac e to our diverse student body, faculty, staff, and visitors.

All positions i n RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
