Job summary

  • Lay out carpet according to floor plans and installation specs.
  • Install carpet in residential homes, seam and join sections, and complete finishing work.
  • Read blueprints and work orders; verify measurements and maintain quality.

Job description

Ritz-Craft Corporation of Michigan is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Carpet Installer to join our production team. This position plays a key role in the completion of high-quality residential modular homes and commercial sites by installing carpet and ensuring professional finishing standards throughout the home.

The ideal candidate will have experience with carpet installation, strong attention to detail, and the ability to read floor plans and work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Carpet Installation & Floor Preparation
  • Prepare flooring surfaces by cleaning, leveling, and removing or correcting nails, staples, and other imperfections that may affect installation quality.
  • Inspect subfloor conditions and ensure surfaces meet installation standards before carpet placement.
  • Measure rooms and living spaces accurately to ensure proper material usage and minimize waste.
  • Lay out carpet according to floor plans and installation specifications.
Installation & Finishing
  • Install carpet in residential homes using industry-standard tools and techniques.
  • Seam and join carpet sections using heat tape and seaming irons to create a professional appearance.
  • Operate power stretchers, knee kickers, and other installation tools to secure carpet properly.
  • Trim carpet precisely around walls, fixtures, doors, transitions, and other finished surfaces.
  • Install transition strips and complete final finishing work to meet company quality standards.
Blueprint & Quality Standards
  • Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and work orders.
  • Verify measurements and installation requirements prior to beginning work.
  • Maintain high standards of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
  • Conduct final inspections to ensure completed work meets quality expectations.
Safety & Teamwork
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Collaborate effectively with production team members and other departments to ensure timely completion of homes.
  • Assist with additional production duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Previous carpet installation experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and floor plans.
  • Experience using carpet installation tools and equipment.
  • Strong measuring and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to quality workmanship and workplace safety.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work on hands and knees for extended periods while installing and finishing carpet.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and installation equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions involving hands, wrists, and arms.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in confined areas as needed.
  • Visual ability to inspect measurements, seams, and finished workmanship accurately.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures.
