Job summary

Ingram State Technical College in Alabama seeks a full-time Carpentry Career/Technical Instructor to teach carpentry while reporting to the Associate Dean of Instruction and Dean of Instruction. The role covers practical instruction, demonstrations, and safety in the shop or lab.

The successful candidate will have 3+ years of carpentry experience, a preferred associate degree, and the ability to manage classroom activities, equipment, and student learning outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of full-time experience in carpentry or a related field.
  • Associate's degree or 60 credit hours preferred.
  • Ability to organize and deliver practical and technical instruction.
  • Knowledge of safety, codes, and maintenance of tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes a program of practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in trade.
  • Instructs students in mathematics, communication skills, work habits, use and maintenance of tools and equipment, codes and safety.
  • Uses and promotes appropriate technology to enhance learning outcomes and hands-on projects.
  • Maintains equipment and ensures proper storage and security of supplies.
  • Plans and supervises student work, individually or in small groups, in-shop or lab.
  • Tests and evaluates student mastery of technical knowledge and trade skills.
  • Maintains records and provides reports as directed by the Dean of Instruction.
  • Assists with the College’s Job Placement Coordinator to identify employment opportunities.

Job description

The Carpentry Career/Technical Instructor is a full-time position teaching students carpentry while performing all duties under the direct supervision of the Associate Dean of Instruction and Dean of Instruction. Prepares practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in trade; Instructs students in subject areas such as mathematics, communication skills, work habits, use and maintenance of tools and equipment, codes or regulations related to trade, and safety precautions. Listed below are the primary responsibilities for this position; however, the Dean of Instruction or his/her designee may assign other professional duties to meet the College's needs.

  • Organizes a program of practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in trade. Lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology,
  • Instructs students in subject areas such as mathematics, communication skills, work habits, use and maintenance of tools and equipment, codes or regulations related to trade, and safety precautions,
  • Uses and promotes appropriate technology to enhance students learning outcomes, hands-on projects for hands-on experience,
  • Maintain equipment and ensure proper storage and security of supplies,
  • Plans and supervises work of students, individually or in small groups, in-shop or laboratory,
  • Tests and evaluates achievement of students in technical knowledge and trade skills,
  • Maintains all records and provides reports as directed by the Dean of Instruction or his/her designee,
  • Assist with the College’s Job Placement Coordinator to identify potential employment opportunities for students,
  • Complete other duties as assigned,
  • Possesses a sensitivity and commitment to cultural diversity,
  • Complies with any applicable guidelines and policies set forth by the Alabama Community College System, and J.F. Ingram State Technical College

Three (3) years of successful full-time experience in the specified field is required.

An associate’s degree or equivalent [at least sixty (60) hours in a planned program including associate degree core] from a two-year college or technical school is preferred .

Salary Range: Salary will be determined by placement on the appropriate Alabama Community College System-approved salary schedule. D2 $41,290- $75,677 for a nine-month contract; summer employment may be available dependent on enrollment. D2 $16,023 - $29,409 for a three-month contract.
