Job summary

Aerotek in Ames, IA is hiring a Carpentry Apprentice to support commercial construction projects within roughly 60 miles of Ames and Fort Dodge. You will start as a general laborer with opportunities to focus on carpentry, concrete work, steel erection, and welding based on skills and interests.

The role involves all phases of construction, including remodels and new builds, with the flexibility to shift tasks as project needs change.

Qualifications

• 1+ years construction experience or strong hand/power tool skills.
• Experience with carpentry, framing, and concrete work.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to reach multiple job sites.
• Comfort reading basic measurements and layouts with a tape measure.

Responsibilities

• Perform general construction labor on commercial projects including remodels and new construction.
• Demolition work safely and efficiently, including removal of structures and materials.
• Assist with earthwork and excavations such as site prep and grading.
• Place and finish concrete for foundations, slabs, walls, and other elements.
• Prepare layouts to support framing and concrete activities.
• Erect framework for walls, floors, and roofs using carpentry techniques.
• Install ceilings and walls, including framing and finish work.
• Assist with steel erection and welding tasks with proper safety procedures.
• Signal equipment operators to guide movement of materials safely on site.
• Use hand and power tools safely for cutting, fastening, measuring, and assembly.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Work collaboratively in crews and adapt to multiple roles as needed.
