Job description

UIC Sanatu seeks a Carpenter to construct, install, and repair structures including framing, drywall, roofing, and concrete forms. Responsibilities include reading plans, operating basic construction equipment, and performing work in compliance with OSHA standards. Additional construction tasks may be assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures including concrete forms, framing, siding, roofing, drywall, insulation, windows, doors, and casework.
  • Perform general construction tasks such as guardrail installation, welding, piling, cutting materials, and grade checking.
  • Operate basic construction equipment (e.g., forklifts, loaders).
  • Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and team members.
  • Follow all OSHA safety regulations and operate tools in compliance with standards.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure adherence to safety requirements.
  • Support overall job operations and assist with maintaining project timelines.
  • Promptly report incidents, unsafe conditions, or activities to the Superintendent.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical And Mental Demands
  • Work involves exposure to physical risks and hazards; adherence to safety protocols is required.
  • Requires extensive physical activity, including strenuous tasks and heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects over 50 lbs.
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Equipment operation may involve constant jarring due to uneven surfaces and machinery movement.
  • Must be able to sit in the operator’s seat and safely access all controls, including pedals, switches, levers, and buttons (if authorized).
  • Must maintain adequate visibility of instruments, gauges, warning lights, and external surroundings while operating equipment.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather and at various elevations.
  • Job sites may include light to heavy equipment, construction materials, communication gear, and tools.
  • Regular presence of people walking, sitting, standing, signaling, and communicating.
  • Subject to exposure to loud noises, alarms, and machinery.
  • May encounter environmental conditions such as extreme cold or heat, noise, moving equipment, slippery or irregular surfaces, open excavations, and temporary structures.
  • Frequent work in high or precarious places with potential risk of electrical shock.
  • Work often occurs in confined spaces or close quarters with various construction hazards.
  • Must remain alert to surroundings and maintain situational awareness at all times.
  • Physical demands include regular sitting, standing, walking, reaching, using hands and arms, and verbal communication while handling tools or controls.
