Job summary

Dick Anderson Construction in Billings, MT is seeking a skilled Carpenter to perform a range of residential, commercial, and light industrial carpentry tasks under foreman supervision.

You will read blueprints, lay out framing, install joists and walls, and handle form work and finishing duties with basic hand tools. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.

Qualifications

  • Previous construction experience required.
  • Basic understanding of stud layout and rough framing.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Valid driver’s license and/or reliable means of transportation to job site locations.
  • Must provide own basic hand tools; employer provides specialty tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to interpret and apply verbal and/or written instructions in English.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic layout work for new construction and/or remodels.
  • Constructs and positions concrete forms for footings and foundations using power and hand tools; may occasionally help pour concrete and disassemble forms when concrete is set.
  • Installs and sets floor joists, frames floor, and lays down sheets of plywood to build the sub‑floor.
  • Builds exterior/interior walls, raises walls up, and braces/securing them into place.
  • Installs protective sheeting around exterior walls for a weather barrier.
  • Frames openings for windows and doors.
  • Hangs exterior/interior doors and exterior windows.
  • Installs roof trusses and sheets of plywood and lays roof sheeting.
  • Performs finish work, including installing inside trim pieces, sanding, staining, and/or painting.
  • Loads and unloads materials and supplies from trucks/trailers at job sites.
  • Packs materials to specific areas on the construction site as needed.
  • Performs housekeeping and keeps work area clean throughout the project, removing trash and debris; shovels, sweeps, and picks up materials by hand.
  • Performs demolition duties of existing structures as needed.

  • May drive a company vehicle to run errands or pick up supplies as needed.

Carpenter is a Heavy Duty job, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25–50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds continuously to move objects.
