Join to apply for the Carpenter - Parks Department role at COUNTY OF LEHIGH

General Definition

This is skilled carpentry work at the journeyman level. The position involves repairing, replacing, altering, and redesigning interior and exterior walls, building parts, equipment, and furnishings in County facilities and buildings. It also includes incidental work in related building trades. The incumbent is responsible for individual accomplishment of assigned work and reports directly to a technical supervisory position.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)

  1. Receives work and job orders for repair, installation, or maintenance of partitions, floors, ceilings, doors, windows, screens, cabinets, and furniture.
  2. Studies building plans, blueprints, and drawings to identify work requirements and plans.
  3. Performs repairs or alterations, including constructing and installing additions, partition walls, paneling, doors, window frames, ceilings, furnishings, and related items.
  4. Installs and repairs hardware fixtures, uses hand and power tools, and inspects finished work for conformance to standards.
  5. Determines materials needed, checks supplies, orders additional materials, and coordinates schedules with other personnel.
  6. Keeps records of jobs, materials used, and related information.
  7. May instruct and oversee other personnel and assist with larger alteration or repair projects.
  8. May perform other maintenance work, including work with suspended ceilings, concrete, roofing, and grounds, using various power tools.
  9. Performs other assigned work as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of carpentry principles, practices, methods, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of tools, substances, safety precautions, and building codes.
  • Skill in the use and maintenance of carpentry tools.
  • Ability to interpret building plans and sketches.
  • Ability to estimate time, materials, and equipment needs.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and keep activity records.
  • Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy fixtures.
  • Ability to work near patients, families, and visitors if required.

Acceptable Training and Experience

Completion of twelfth grade, with three to four years of carpentry experience, including at least one year at the journeyman level, or equivalent training and experience. A criminal background check is required.

Salary: $22.35 per hour
