Job description

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Manager, serves as a carpenter and certified locksmith, performing all types of carpentry and locksmithing services including building modifications and maintenance for the Downtown and Franklin Campuses, as well as other NM facilities and grounds.

Carpentry, Design, Repair, and Restoration
  • Performs various carpentry tasks, assists in evaluating and selecting cost-effective measures, develops specifications and schedules, and addresses safety issues.
  • Assists in constructing new offices and areas, ensuring quality of work.
  • Collaborates with team members, contractors, and trainees.
  • Completes jobs based on work orders, including designing, building, modifying, and repairing furniture, cabinets, displays, and more. Installs and repairs doors, hardware, windows, walls, flooring, and ceilings, using various materials and tools. Works with HR and Facility Planners on ergonomic modifications.
  • Performs general repairs and building envelope restoration, staying updated on new methods and materials.
Locksmithing, Keying Systems, and Electronic Locking Systems
  • Assists with lock installation and maintenance, including electronic locks and recording devices.
  • Cuts keys, designs small master key systems, maintains security systems, and re-pins lock cylinders.
General Duties and Administration
  • Manages inventory of materials and assists in ordering supplies.
  • Supports Lead Carpenter duties during absences, including scheduling and oversight.
  • Contributes to design layouts and participates in special events setups.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with courses in relevant areas.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial construction or carpentry; hardware experience preferred.
  • Locksmith certification required.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, math skills, and knowledge of carpentry tools and equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions, lift up to 40 pounds regularly, and up to 80 pounds occasionally.
  • Strong customer focus, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, SDS, and safe handling of chemicals.
  • OSHA 10 certification within 1 year of employment.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and understand building codes.
  • Proficiency in PC and Microsoft Office.

Compensation Range

Start: $21.73/hr

End: $32.59/hr
