Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using power tools. Install framing and seal joints between plasterboard or other wallboard to prepare wall surfaces for painting or papering. Perform demolition of existing structures, assist in concrete work of new structures, maintain a clean and safe work environment, aid in traffic control, and assist in material handling throughout the job site. Maintain jobsite cleanliness through cleanup activities and transportation of debris.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Design, construct, remodel, retrofit, and repair interior and exterior structures made of wood, drywall, plaster, concrete, and brick.
  2. Shape or cut materials to specified measurements using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
  3. Measure and mark cutting lines on materials with rulers, pencils, chalk, and marking gauges.
  4. Verify the trueness of structures using a plumb bob and level. Assemble and fasten materials to create frameworks or props using hand tools, wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  5. Remove damaged or defective parts of structures and repair or replace them using hand tools.
  6. Cut and screw together metal channels to form floor or ceiling frames according to plans for rooms or hallways.
  7. Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
  8. Perform various tasks requiring different tools, such as demolishing buildings, dismantling forms, setting up pumps and hoses, removing projections from concrete, and cleaning tools and equipment as needed.
  9. Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery.
  10. Level earth to fine grade specifications.
  11. Transport, pour, vibrate, and grade concrete into existing formwork.
  12. Maintain a clean and safe worksite by sweeping, debris removal, transporting tools/equipment, dumping debris, removing snow, and maintaining perimeter fall protection.
  13. Assist in worksite safety by installing/removing barricades, setting up road signage, flagging, and assisting with rigging items to cranes.
  14. Perform final and general cleanup of spaces, including mopping, dusting, and removing floor protection.
  15. Pumping water out of excavations to discharge points, managing hoses, extension cords, and generators.
  16. Set up and maintain stormwater pollution prevention measures.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must successfully complete an essential physical functions evaluation and drug and alcohol testing as coordinated by the employer.
