Job summary

Cody Vermette Group, Inc. is seeking a Journeyman Carpenter to work on-site, supporting the Jobsite Superintendent and mentoring apprentices. Candidates should demonstrate craftsmanship, safety discipline, and the ability to complete tasks to project schedules and quality expectations.

Responsibilities include blueprint interpretation, framing, installation, and finishing work across CVG projects. OSHA 10/30 and CPR/First Aid are preferred; evenings/weekends may be required.

Qualifications

Job description

TITLE: Journeyman Carpenter (non-exempt / non-union / on-site)


Reports to: General Superintendent


Position Summary The Journeyman Carpenter is a skilled tradesperson who can work independently while providing guidance and mentorship to apprentices. This position supports the Jobsite Superintendent in delivering high-quality craftsmanship across all CVG projects, ensuring efficiency, safety, and excellence. The Journeyman Carpenter is expected to follow direction effectively, communicate clearly, and demonstrate a strong commitment to quality, precision, and successful project completion.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):

General Responsibilities


  • Follow, support, and promote CVG’s safety program and all applicable safety regulations.

  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with company policy and immediately report safety concerns or violations.

  • Maintain public safety, including directing traffic when necessary to ensure safety of pedestrians, motorists, and work crews.

  • Maintain current and valid certifications including OSHA 10 or OSHA 30, as required.

  • Safely operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools, construction equipment, heavy machinery, and company vehicles.

  • Load, unload, transport, and properly store construction materials and supplies.

  • Assist with jobsite setup and cleanup activities, including demolition and proper disposal of debris and waste materials.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by storing tools, equipment, and materials appropriately.

  • Dig trenches, pits, and foundations in preparation for construction activities and backfill as required.

  • Complete assigned tasks in accordance with project schedules and productivity expectations.

  • Secure the jobsite at the end of each workday.


Carpentry Responsibilities


  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and project plans with minimal supervision.

  • Perform self-performed carpentry work in support of CVG construction projects.

  • Fabricate, cut, and install wood framing and structural components.

  • Install windows, doors, frames, hardware, and related building materials.

  • Repair, maintain, and modify wood structures and components.

  • Perform trim, finish carpentry, and detail work to company quality standards.

  • Repair and replace acoustic ceiling systems.

  • Form, place, finish, patch, and repair concrete as required.

  • Perform minor demolition, reframing, drywall installation, and repairs involving both metal studs and wood frame construction.

  • Install restroom accessories and other finish construction elements.

  • Assist with additional construction-related duties as assigned.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Previous experience working on commercial and/or residential construction projects.

  • Advanced proficiency with industry-standard hand tools and power tools.

  • Strong knowledge of construction practices, methods, and procedures.

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.

  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with team members, subcontractors, and customers.

  • Demonstrated professionalism, ethical behavior, sound judgment, and accountability.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness and ability to work evenings, weekends, and overtime as business needs require.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while contributing effectively as part of a team.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and maintain compliance with the Company’s Auto/Fleet Safety Program, including required insurance coverage.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job is primarily based on active construction jobsites.



  • Standing & Walking: Long hours on-site may require extended periods of standing and walking, often on uneven terrain or in active construction zones.

  • Bending, Stooping & Kneeling: Regular bending, kneeling, squatting, or crawling to perform tasks at ground level or in confined spaces.

  • Carrying & Lifting: Must frequently lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment, weighing up to 100 pounds.

  • Sitting:

  • Climbing & Accessing Elevated Areas: Frequent climbing ladders, scaffolding, and stairs to inspect work at various heights.

  • Manual Dexterity & Equipment Operation: Frequently uses hands, arms, and eyes to perform skilled carpentry work requiring precision and coordination. Must possess sufficient visual acuity to accurately measure, cut, assemble, and install materials. Regularly operates hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment and performs repetitive motions such as hammering, drilling, lifting, carrying, digging, and shoveling. Must be able to identify and respond appropriately to safety risks and jobsite hazards.

  • Vision & Hearing: Must possess adequate vision and hearing to safely perform essential job functions. Visual abilities include reading blueprints, measurements, and safety signage, as well as identifying quality issues and potential hazards. Hearing ability is required to communicate effectively in active construction environments, follow verbal instructions and safety protocols, and recognize warning signals, alarms, and other jobsite hazards.

  • Driving: Frequent travel to and from project locations, requiring occasional sitting and sustained alertness while driving.



  • Emergency Response & Physical Readiness: Must be able to respond quickly to site emergencies, alarms, equipment signals, verbal instructions, accidents, or urgent situations.

  • Exposure to Construction Environment: Working around loud noise, dust, heavy machinery, and varying weather conditions.

  • Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment): Required if on jobsite (hard hat, reflective vests, protective eyeglasses, closed-toed shoes, etc.).


This position offers an hourly pay range of $30.00 to $50.00 per hour. The actual salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, qualifications, and experience. Salary ranges are subject to change and may be adjusted in the future.
