Job description

The employee must be able to perform finish carpentry work such as frame metal stud walls, hang sheetrock, drywall, install doors and hardware, suspended ceilings, toilet partitions, caulking, and other related interior finishes.

Tasks

  • Accurately interpret and apply information from drawings, specifications, or other documents and recognize basic blueprint terms and symbols for job application.
  • Identify, recognize and demonstrate safe usage of power tools and hand tools appropriate for the job.
  • Recognize various materials used in carpentry and demonstrate a working knowledge of appropriate material handling techniques.
  • Select and safely use appropriate equipment which may include (but not limited to) manlifts, forklifts, and company trucks.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the correct application of various coatings including paints and varnishes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to correctly install all or most of the following:
    • Doors
    • Door Jambs
    • Windows
    • Trim
    • Suspended Ceilings
    • Paneling
    • Drywall
    • Stairs
    • Ceramic Tile
    • Various types of flooring
    • Caulking
    • Masonry

Required Skills

  • Positions required to work in: climbing, bending, standing, sitting, walking, lifting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, crawling.
  • Good hand/eye balance is required to use the tools necessary to complete the required work.
  • Must have vision which has good depth perception to judge distances and space relationships, especially important when doing near-point work which may be varying distances from the eye.
  • Must be able to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Must be able to work in all kinds of weather.
  • Minimum math ability for this position is to calculate surface areas and translate these figures into a bill of material, which can be used to complete a specific job. Must be able to use variables and formulas which are normally found in most industry-approved trade handbooks.
  • Must have the ability to speak using correct English and to write simple reports with the correct format using the correct English spelling and grammar. Must also have the ability to read safety requirements, read and understand instructions for the correct usage of tools, and be able to read and understand methods and procedures in civil drawings and layout prints in English.
  • The employee must be able to use a standard ruler to measure.
  • Demonstrate ability to use whole numbers, fractions and decimals to add, subtract, multiply and divide and be able to accurately follow instructions.

  • Arm-Hand Steadiness - The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

Required Experience

  • Should have 1-4 years' experience as a helper in the Carpentry or related trades.
  • Should have 1-2 years' experience as a journeyman in the Carpentry trade.
  • Experience working inside industrial facilities is a plus.
