At Hilo Benioff Medical Center in Hilo, this role plays a vital part in maintaining a safe, functional, and healing environment for patients, staff, and the community. As a Carpenter, you’ll contribute directly to the upkeep and improvement of hospital facilities through skilled craftsmanship and hands‑on problem solving.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform journeyman‑level carpentry work, including construction, renovation, and repair of structures such as walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, windows, and doors
  • Build and install wooden structures and fixtures from sketches, blueprints, and plans
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings and complete necessary maintenance and repairs
  • Construct and assemble concrete forms, estimate materials, and assist with pouring and finishing concrete work
  • Operate and maintain a variety of carpentry tools and equipment, including power saws, sanders, and drill presses
  • Erect scaffolding and complete roofing work using shingles, roofing paper, or other materials
Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred. Completion of an approved carpentry apprenticeship program is preferred.
  • Experience: Four (4) years of experience performing a variety of rough and finished carpentry work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of carpentry methods, materials, tools, and building codes
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings
    • Skilled in estimating labor and material needs
    • Ability to work independently and provide guidance to helpers when needed
