Job summary

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, is seeking a Carpenter I to join our Facilities team in Boston. You will repair, install, maintain, and modify carpentry-related structures and furnishings under supervision, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and quality workmanship.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints, planning projects, supervising trade workers, and coordinating with contractors and hospital staff to meet project goals

Qualifications

• Able to interpret codes and standards for carpentry work.
• Capable of performing all physical activities required.
• Skilled in reading blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
• Able to follow written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural repairs, alterations, and improvements including ceilings and surfaces.
• Plan, design, install, modify, repair, and remove carpentry structures and components.
• Price, order, store, inventory, and document stock and materials.
• Supervise trade workers and collaborate with staff, contractors, consultants, vendors, and hospital administration.
• Operate, maintain, secure, and supervise departmental equipment.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and standards.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of hospital policies and directives.
• Attend meetings, training, and other assigned events.
• Interpret and create sketches, patterns, blueprints, instructions, and layouts of work.
• Inspect buildings and estimate labor and material quantities; report results.
• Travel between sites as needed.
