The Role

Do you have what it takes to build the permanent structures that bring America’s most advanced naval vessels to life?

As an Ingalls Discrete Carpenter, you are part of a skilled team responsible for installing the permanent foundations, fixtures, and structures that support ship construction from the inside out. You will read blueprints, lay out exact placement for shipboard components, and install essential items such as ladders, tile, stanchions, deck sockets, staples, and other structural elements. Your craftsmanship ensures every component is installed accurately, safely, and to the highest standard — work that keeps our fleet mission‑ready.

If you’re ready to apply your skill on a world‑class scale, a rewarding career at Ingalls Shipbuilding — “America’s Shipyard” and Mississippi’s largest private employer — is waiting.

What You Can Earn
  • Earn $35.99 per hour, depending on experience and skill level.
  • Additional opportunities for overtime, specialized training, and long‑term career growth.
What You’ll Do
  • Install permanent structures aboard ships and other naval units.
  • Read blueprints and lay out precise locations for ladders, stanchions, deck sockets, tile, staples, and shipboard components.
  • Use a wide range of carpentry and fabrication tools, including hammers, squares, levels, grinders, saws, and pneumatic or motor‑powered tools.
  • Measure materials accurately using tape measures and layout tools.
  • Work in varied shipyard environments and support changing production needs.
  • Must be available to work any shift in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
