Job summary

Scull Construction Service, Inc. is seeking a skilled carpenter to build, install, design and repair structures, fixtures and furniture using wood, metal and other materials.

The role offers a dynamic team environment and exposure to diverse projects in the northern plains region. Based in Rapid City, SD, the company emphasizes safety, training and long-term development through apprenticeship opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of four years of carpentry experience preferred.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening.
  • Must have personal transportation to and from job sites, including out-of-town work.
  • Must arrive on time to job site fit for duty for required shift and have PPE and necessary tools.
  • Attend safety meetings and maintain safe job site practices following company policy.
  • Wear and maintain PPE as directed by supervisor and safety team.
  • Willingness to learn and master new tasks, duties, and responsibilities.
  • Pay attention to job details to provide an acceptable uniform product.
  • Identify and communicate any job site hazards.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools only if trained.
  • Keep all tools in good, clean condition.
  • Demonstrate safety and housekeeping on all job sites.
  • Show a positive attitude toward the company and customers.
  • Be responsible for unsupervised work and complete tasks as directed.
  • Ability to instruct and direct laborers.
  • Willingness to travel out-of-town; overtime/weekends as required.
  • Maintain hygiene and dress appropriately for conditions.

Job description

At Scull Construction, a carpenter is responsible for building, installing, designing, and repairing structures, fixtures, furniture, and other items using different materials, including wood, plastic, metal, and other materials. The position's skill set is continuously increasing by working with an exceptional team that prides itself on doing some of the finest and most challenging projects in the northern plains region.

Pay: $19 - $28 per hour

Essential Functions:
  • Frame walls, sheet floor, roofs, layout walls, joists, trusses, stairs, set casework, install accessories, install windows, set door jams, install hardware, and set and strip forms.
  • Follow and understand blueprints and building plans to meet client needs
  • Be knowledgeable in the use of transit
  • Operate equipment such as a gas saw, Bobcat, and forklift
  • Take direction and accomplish duties outlined by your supervisor and ask questions when you do not understand the task
  • Be dependable to your team: You work as a team and progress as a team
  • Assist with all tasks; even it is below your skill level
Education Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and random employee pool drug/alcohol testing
  • Must have personal transportation to and from job sites, including out-of-town work
  • Must arrive on time to job site fit for duty for required shift and have personal protective equipment (PPE) and necessary tools with you.
  • Attend all safety meetings and maintain safe job site practices following company policy
  • Wear and maintain PPE as directed by supervisor and safety team, including but not limited to hard hats, safety glasses, and high visibility vests
  • Willingness to learn and master new tasks, duties, and responsibilities
  • Pay attention to job details to provide an acceptable uniform product
  • Identify and communicate any job site hazards
  • Safely and correctly operate all equipment and manual/power tools. Do not operate any equipment or tools that you have not been trained to use properly
  • Keep all tools in good, clean, and operating order
  • Demonstrate and promote safety and proper housekeeping on all job sites
  • Display a positive attitude towards the company, fellow employees, and customers
  • Be responsible for working unsupervised and complete work as directed
  • Ability to instruct and direct laborers and other construction helpers in a positive and encouraging manner
  • Willingness to travel out-of-town
  • Work overtime as required, including some weekends
  • Maintain acceptable personal hygiene
  • Dress appropriately for working conditions

Physical Requirements
  • Able to physically lift heavy materials (up to 75 pounds) frequently throughout the work shift
  • Ability to safely climb up and down ladders
  • Ability to work alone once instructions have been given
  • Able to complete a full day's assignments involving one or more of the following: Standing, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, and repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment and any other safety-related equipment
  • Able to work from various heights via ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and other safe work platforms over 10 feet
  • Able to work in extreme weather conditions and elements, indoor or outdoor, including heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, and snow, depending on the job location
  • Able to work a minimum of 8 hours a day, with overtime and off-hour shifts as required
